What we do
Masihambe: An innovative, pilot Social Enterprise Development Programme
Problem
A generation of young Zimbabweans with potential to make economic, social and environmental impact in their communities, are constrained by systemic challenges, educational gaps and profound socio-economic hardships, which have negatively impacted mental health. High unemployment, urban hunger and poverty have pushed youth towards risky and often illicit income generating activities such as small-scale artisenal mining, currency dealing and prostitution.
Solution
To nurture and support young people in a safe and well-equipped hub, where they are equipped with skills and knowledge, and given the tools and creative space in which to develop their own Social Enterprise that solves a real world problem in their communities, generating profits, and impacting Zimbabwe socially and environmentally, one neighbourhood at a time.
Masihambe: Let's Go!
Solution
Masihambe Social Enterprise
Over 12 months, youth will participate in a comprehensive program that:
– Addresses psycho-social issues, with support and guidance.
– Bridges the most pressing educational gaps.
– Offers technical, business and marketing skills.
– Engages them in spiritual growth via bible-based mentoring.
– Facilitates a “social enterprise” that ensures employment, financial rewards, a meaningful contribution to their communities and environmental care.
Transformation and Community Impact
Our belief in the transformative power of purpose-driven businesses charts a distinct course from traditional models. We seek to foster a paradigm shift amongst our youth by empowering them to craft solutions tailored to their realities, which will see a natural surge in innovation. A social enterprise is a profit-making entity with a clear community mission with profit generated funnelled back into amplifying this mission, creating community change, not merely individual upliftment.
A Community Hub
From informal trader to Social Entrepreneur
With the journey and the young person in mind, we have already begun to setup our programme hub. It boasts a dedicated training space that can take up to 20 people, a tech hub which will house experimental Raspberry Pi computers designed to teach coding and cyber security, as well as a listening/counselling room and outdoors and covered refreshment areas.
